Social City Hofheim Nord
The town Hofheim am Taunus, together with the Hofheim Nord district, home to 4,000 people, was accepted into the Social City Federal Programme (Bund-Länder-Förderprogramm Soziale Stadt) in 2007. Thanks to the support provided by this urban development programme, the county town is able to revalue its northern residential areas and implement important urban development measures as well as social and cultural projects.
The NH ProjektStadt association was able to assert itself in a nationwide competition and, at the end of 2008, took over both the development of the integrated strategy as well as the project and neighbourhood management tasks for the district. The management tasks focus on the urban and social development of the district in cooperation with the residents. During the development of the integrated strategy, numerous events for resident participation were already organized, networks were established, and first initial projects were developed.
Neighbourhood management always requires close cooperation and fair partnership between all involved parties. The expertise and experience of the various participants – politicians, administrative authorities, proprietors, tenants, associations and institutions – can only turn into one successful collective and do justice to the integrated approach towards the Social City program if everyone works together. The Social City programme aims at stabilizing urban development, improving housing and living conditions as well as strengthening the social and cultural life with the active involvement of people from the neighbourhood. Projects and measures are not developed for them but with them. To make this idea become visible and tangible in the neighbourhood itself, the Town of Hofheim and the neighbourhood management authority, in cooperation with the communal housing association, promptly established and gave life to a neighbourhood office as a nucleus for urban development and cultural projects and as a contact point for local residents with room for social offers and local groups.
