Western city centre - Mollerstadt

Since January 2011, NH City Project (NH ProjektStadt) as city redevelopment agency and trustee has been supporting the City of Darmstadt in the implementation of its urban design and regeneration measures for Darmstadt's "Western city - Mollerstadt." Mollerstadt is situated in close proximity to the city center of Darmstadt. The area itself is highly compact with mixed uses: residential, services, restaurants, and retail management. After the destruction in the 2nd World War, Mollerstadt was rebuilt, particularly in the 1950's, in a closed, three-to four-storey block design configuration. The inside areas of these blocks are usually cut off so that there is a total lack of green space in these neighbourhoods.

The aim of the regeneration is the harmonisation of the bustling inner city district with urban living and working patterns. Outdated buildings will be modernised and energetically restored. In parts, large office buildings are vacant or underutilised. Here, appropriate new uses will be found.

The redesign and enhancement of public spaces will be at the forefront of the measures taken: The hitherto only sporadic outside catering outlets will be made more prevalent. Stationary and moving traffic should be reconfigured and street landscapes made attractive through redesign measures, so that the amenity for residents and visitors increases steadily.
