Business Improvement Districts (BIDs)/ INGE perspectives for orphaned inner cities
| BIDs: | Initiative, community and know-how |
| Problem areas: | Everyday life in large and small German cities is sobering: whole rows of stores decayed. In the meantime, closed businesses, sealed facades and contaminated places continue to define the image of our cities. Modern shopping centers and leisure temples lure potential customers from the inner cities. A fatal development for the future of communities and their residents. |
| Goals: | Successful location reassessment: revitalization and strengthening of inner city business areas. |
| Solution: | The problem solution can and will not be predetermined by countries and communities alone. Rather, the people on-site and their opinions are required. Only courage and initiative can move and improve something. It is a policy task to create the optimum legal conditions for the initiative of their citizens. In 2006, the province of Hesse passed the Gesetz zur Stärkung von innerstädtischen Geschäftsquartieren (Act for the Reinvigoration of Inner City Business Quarters) , INGE in short, the legal regulations effective in this federal state. |
Based on our decades of experience as decontamination and development agencies, we are competent partners and agents in the moderation process between private property owners and community interests from politics and administration. A challenge, which we accomplish in all questions of revitalization and strengthening of inner city business areas. To do so, we use one of the most successful methods of location reassessment: Business Improvement Districts (BIDs).
