Provincia di Salerno

Development and opening up of a Southern Italian coast

In their largest project outside of Germany to date, Nassauische Heimstätte supported the provincial government of Salerno in the preparatory planning for the development of an approx. 35 kilometer long coast. The scenically charming, agricultural area that connects to the Amalfi coast in the south, is to be developed and opened up for soft tourism and for ultimate contribution to an environmentally-friendly commercial future trend of the region. By 2006, the European Union provided overall around 9.3 billion euros from their regional development fund for the whole province campaign, of which approximately 500 million euros was available for the cost of Piana del Sele.

Nassauische Heimstätte assumed responsibility for the overall planning and the function of an outside adviser in a work group with a deadline of ten months, including five communities and the province of Salerno. In December of 2003, the work group presented an organization model for the structural implementation phase on schedule, a regional policy for the coastal region and a feasibility study in the form of a master plan and  concluded with the planned management strategy. For tourism and the commercial opening up of the region, the master plan provides for the revitalization of a former military airport as a passenger and freight airport, the construction of a harbor as well as the recreation of 15,000 hotel beds. We predict that approximately this will lead to 1,500 permanent new work places.

The company’s proven understanding of public projects – including know-how in urban development measures, in planning management and housing development – was the key factor for the collaboration of the Salerno provincial government with Nassauische Heimstätte. In addition to classic project management, the company offers services for the control, coordination, planning and counseling of each project phase for the subsequent implementation and settlement phase through 2008, in which enormous investments and construction activities are to be employed.
